SETARA Institute’s 20-Year Performance Report

This document is a 20-year institutional performance report reflecting SETARA Institute’s journey in advancing a society that is equal, pluralistic, and dignified. Established in 2005, SETARA Institute has pursued its vision through research, advocacy, public education, and promotion across a range of issues, including pluralism, freedom of religion or belief, social inclusion, democracy, human rights, the rule of law, and peace. Its two decades of work represent a long process of learning and institutional development, as well as intellectual and practical engagement in responding to various challenges to democracy and human rights in Indonesia.

The report not only documents SETARA Institute’s institutional journey over two decades, but also reflects on the organization’s contributions and evolving work in promoting inclusive, rights-based democracy. Throughout its history, SETARA has developed research and advocacy initiatives on freedom of religion or belief, security sector reform, law enforcement and constitutionalism, prevention of violent extremism, and the transformation of public policies to become more responsive to human rights. The 20-year performance report serves as a reflection on SETARA’s journey, lessons learned, and contributions to generating knowledge and advancing social and political change at both the national and international levels.
