Release DateSeptember 18, 2014CategoryNews & CoverageShare

Hendardi, Chair of the Setara Institute, together with several board members, including Ismail Hasani, Bonar Tigor Naipospos and Father Benny Susetyo, held a meeting with the Chair of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR RI), Drs. Sidarto Danusubroto, S.H., accompanied by Deputy Chair Lukman Hakim Syaifuddin, in the Executive Meeting Room, Nusantara III, MPR/DPR Complex, on Tuesday (17 September).
In addition to discussing achievements regarding the protection of human rights and the challenges that continue to be faced, the meeting specifically sought the MPR’s support for the establishment of the Rumah Pancasila.

The Rumah Pancasila is intended as a forum for the nation’s youth to interact with one another and foster Pancasila in a concrete manner, so that it becomes internalised as part of everyday culture. It is acknowledged that the promotion of the Four Pillars has been quite successful; therefore, it is felt that the establishment of the ‘Rumah Pancasila’ is necessary going forward, with plans to launch the first pilot project in Jakarta.

“I strongly support the idea of the ‘Rumah Pancasila’,” emphasised Sidarto, who promised to provide input to the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Joko Widodo, so that its establishment can be realised promptly.

Responding to the numerous cases that have arisen due to intolerance amongst certain groups in society, Sidarto expressed his concern. “Democracy protects minorities; the state must be firm,” he said.

On that occasion, the Setara Institute extended an invitation to the Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly to be the keynote speaker at an international seminar on the constitution to be held this coming November.
